Where do our expectations of AI come from? They are certainly high expectations, but why are they so high, and is such expectation truly warranted in this moment?
It’s been over a hear since ChatGPT stunned us all with its humanesque capabilities. It seems knowledgable and cogent, even insightful at times.
Does it produce anything “new?” Why do we care or think it should? There are plenty of humans who don’t produce anything “new” or profound. But is a benchmark of true AI something about creative newness or radical interestingness?
